Alongside its always-on dots agents, OpenAI used DevDay 2026 to open up a set of collaborative document tools inside ChatGPT, prompting comparisons with Microsoft's Office suite.
The centrepiece is Space, a shared workspace that replaces ChatGPT's old Library feature. Space is available to Pro, Business and Enterprise users, and gives teams one place to keep files, conversations and documents together rather than scattered across chats.
Inside Space sits Pages, a new document type built for writing, charts and images. Several people can edit a Page at the same time, and anyone with access can tag ChatGPT directly inside the document to ask it to rewrite a section, add a chart or restructure content, rather than copying text out to a separate chat window.
Slides and spreadsheet-style Sheets documents are described as coming soon within Space, rather than available from day one, so the suite is still short of a full word-processor-plus-spreadsheet-plus-slides offering. On mobile, people can read, share and navigate Pages today, but editing is restricted to desktop for now.
Commentators have been quick to frame this as OpenAI chasing Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace. That is directionally right, but the gaps are real: without finished slides and sheets, and without mobile editing, ChatGPT's workspace covers less ground than either incumbent. It does, however, show where OpenAI wants ChatGPT to sit, as a place teams do shared work, not just a chat window.
